This is the markup, right? This is the help committee. This is the right notebook, right? Yes. The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions will please come to order. Senator Sanders reminded me it's the help committee, but I actually had that down, Bernie. President Trump is focused on delivering the most pro-worker administration in history. To do this, he needs officials with strong experience and a commitment to put workers first. The nominees before us are aligned with the President's vision. They confirmed to the National Labor Relations Board, Mr. Jim Murphy and Ms. Crystal Carey will prioritize workers and ensure that their rights are protected under federal law. They'll restore stability for both workers and employers and work to clear the backlog of cases left by the Biden administration. As Assistant Secretary for Policy at the Department of Labor, Mr. Rosario Palmieri will work with Congress to modernize the Department of Labor, creating greater flexibility for states to administer workforce programs. If confirmed as DOL Inspector General, Congressman Anthony Desposito will drive President Trump's mission to reform the federal bureaucracy and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse. These nominees have demonstrated they are committed to implementing President Trump's pro worker pro family agenda. I proudly support their nominations and urge colleagues to do the same. With that, I recognize Senator Sanders.
Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman. Today we will be considering four of President Trump's labor nominees. I will be voting against all of them. President Trump's strong anti-union, anti-worker agenda will only be made worse by these nominees if they are confirmed. But first, let me thank the chairman for removing the nomination of Boeing's chief labor counsel, Scott Mayer, to be a member of the National Labor Relations Board. As I think many of us remember or know, for more than two months, 3,200 machinists in St. Louis, Missouri, have been out on strike against the unacceptable and greedy and outrageous corporate activities of Boeing. Instead of negotiating in good faith with the machinists, Boeing has taken away their healthcare benefits and threatened to replace them with non-union labor. These workers who manufacture some of the most sophisticated aircraft in the world, in some cases, make as little as $18 an hour. Meanwhile, Boeing's CEO has received over $18 million in pay for just four months of work, and its previous two CEOs received over $100 million in compensation. If Boeing cannot agree to a fair union contract with the machinists in St. Louis, I don't believe Boeing's chief labor counsel should become a member of the National Labor Relations Board. Unfortunately, Mr. Chairman, just like Mr. Mayor, the rest of the nominees that we will be considering this morning are also opposed by the trade union movement. The AFL-CIO representing nearly 15 million workers is urging us to oppose all of these nominees. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers representing 600,000 workers and retirees is opposed to all of these nominees. The Service Employees International Union representing 2 million workers is opposed to all of these nominees. The Teamsters, we heard the president of the Teamsters Just yesterday, representing 1.3 million workers as opposed to the nomination of Crystal Carey, who was nominated to be general counsel at the NLRB.
We still have a couple people we're waiting on, okay? I'm happy to go on and on, Mr. Chairman. I didn't say that. Those are words I've never heard in this committee room from you.
